North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has insisted that North Korea's nuclear programme will continue 'indefinitely'.
Speaking after inspecting a nuclear material production facility, leader Kim Jong Un stressed that 2025 will be an important year to strengthen North Korea's nuclear force to ensure its defense capability. According to Mr. Kim Jong Un, North Korea's security is the most unstable in the world, so Pyongyang needs to strengthen its nuclear shield in a sustainable manner.
The inspection came after Pyongyang tested a strategic sea-to-land guided cruise missile on January 25. The first weapons test less than a week after Trump returned to the White House was seen as a strong message to the US leader, who just days earlier expressed his intention to continue communicating with the North Korean leader.
During the 2024 campaign, Mr. Trump repeatedly highlighted his personal relationship with the North Korean leader, fueling speculation that he would seek to restore direct diplomatic relations with Mr. Kim Jong Un. During his first term, President Trump had three meetings with Mr. Kim Jong Un: the first summit in Singapore in June 2018, the summit in Hanoi in February 2019, and the meeting at the Panmunjom truce village on the inter-Korean border in June 2019.
