Hai Duong City abandons policy of adding international English certificate points in 6th grade admissions at key schools

No bonus points for students with international English certificates, but priority is given in case of equal scores.

Regarding admission scores, Hai Duong City has abandoned the policy of adding bonus points to students who have international English certificates within the prescribed time limit. Previously, on November 2, 2023, Hai Duong City People's Committee issued a notice on high-quality 6th grade enrollment for the 2024-2025 school year, stating that bonus points will be added to students who have international English certificates within the prescribed time limit (issued by facilities on the approved list of organizations to organize foreign language proficiency exams in Vietnam), including: Cambridge and TOEFL Primary certificates.

Another new point, this year Hai Duong City added a condition that in case of equal admission scores, priority will be given to students with international English certificates within the prescribed time limit, which are Cambridge certificates, level 1 (level A1) - Movers with 10 shields or more, level 2 (level A2) - Flyers with 4 shields or more or TOEFL Primary certificate level 1 (level A1) or more; or students with English or other foreign language certificates at levels equivalent to these certificate levels according to the conversion table of foreign language proficiency framework of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Thus, in case of equal admission scores, the basis will no longer be the team leader, deputy team leader, class leader; periodic test scores in math and Vietnamese in order of grades 5, 4, 3, 2, 1; learning and training results of 5 years of primary school as in the previous school year.

Additional conditions for admission

This year, the city has set out 3 conditions, including 2 new conditions compared to the previous school year. Students who meet 1 of the 3 conditions as prescribed will be considered for admission. The 2 new conditions are that in grade 5, they have achieved first prize or gold medals in national, Southeast Asian, and international math, Vietnamese, and English competitions issued by the Ministry of Education and Training; have an international English certificate within the prescribed time limit as above (issued by facilities on the list approved to jointly organize foreign language proficiency certification exams in Vietnam) or students have an English or other foreign language certificate at a level equivalent to the above certificate levels according to the foreign language proficiency framework conversion table of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Regarding enrollment targets, Binh Minh Secondary School was assigned 120 targets, a decrease of 40 targets compared to the previous school year. Le Quy Don Secondary School was assigned 200 targets, Vo Thi Sau Secondary School 120 targets, similar to the previous school year.

Other regulations and priority points are similar to the 2023-2024 school year. Students can register 1 wish and submit an application to grade 6 at one of three key secondary schools: Le Quy Don, Binh Minh, Vo Thi Sau. Students will take a competency test, including math and Vietnamese knowledge; 20-point scale, of which math is 10 points, Vietnamese is 10 points. The test format is multiple choice combined with essay. Test time is 60 minutes.

Application period is from June 2-4. On June 9, qualified candidates will take the test at Ngoc Chau Primary School and Ngoc Chau Secondary School (Hai Duong City).
