In addition to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, localities such as Khanh Hoa, Quang Ninh, and Da Nang all have impressive growth in revenue and number of tourists in 2024.
According to the National Tourism Administration, in 2024, Vietnam is expected to welcome nearly 17.5 million international visitors and 110 million domestic visitors, with total tourism revenue reaching VND840,000 billion, an increase of about 1.2 times compared to 2023.
Ho Chi Minh City is one of the localities with the highest total number of visitors and tourism revenue in the country, with 44 million visitors and 190,000 billion VND, an increase of nearly 19% compared to 2023. The city has also received many prestigious awards such as being honored as Festival, Event and Business Tourism Destination, Asia's leading MICE destination, top 25 must-visit destinations in 2025.
Hanoi ranked second, with a total of nearly 28 million visitors and total tourism revenue of VND110,000 billion, up more than 18% over last year. According to experts, 2024 will be a "bumper year" for Hanoi tourism as the destination has been continuously honored with many major awards such as Tripadvisor and the World Travel Awards (WTA).
In addition to the two largest cities in the country, Quang Ninh is the third name on the list with an estimated total of more than 19 million visitors, with total revenue reaching more than 46,000 billion VND. On average, each visitor spends 2.45 million VND, an increase of 300,000 VND compared to 2023. This is a locality heavily affected by Typhoon Yagi. The whole province welcomed more than 10.6 million visitors, an increase of nearly 46% compared to 2023, of which international visitors are estimated at 4.5 million. Ninh Binh is also a bright spot in the tourism industry, exceeding the set target by more than 16%, with more than 8.7 million visitors. The province has actively promoted the Ninh Binh tourism brand by participating in more than 30 domestic and international fairs. The province also organized many national and international cultural and sports events to attract visitors, such as a series of activities to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Trang An being recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural and Natural Heritage, a culinary festival, and a hot air balloon festival. Thanks to that, Ninh Binh welcomed more than 1.5 million international visitors in 2024, the highest ever.
Other provinces and cities also had high numbers of visitors and revenue this year, including Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Da Nang Thanh Hoa, Lam Dong, Kien Giang and Binh Dinh.
