South Korea's anti-corruption agency investigating high-ranking officials announced that an arrest warrant has been issued for impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol.
On January 15, CNA news site reported that South Korean authorities had arrested impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol.
The Corruption Investigation Office for Senior Officials (CIO) announced that the arrest warrant for impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol was executed at 10:33 a.m. on January 15 local time (8:33 a.m. Vietnam time).
Earlier, the lawyer of impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol said that to prevent clashes between the presidential security force and the police, impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol decided to go to the CIO on January 15.
Lawyer Seok Dong Hyun said that although impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol said the investigation and arrest were illegal, he accepted to prevent bigger incidents from arising when carrying out the arrest warrant.
Impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol will make a public statement.
Also on the morning of January 15, South Korean police deployed a large force of more than 3,200 riot police and investigators to execute an arrest warrant for impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol at his residence in central Seoul.
