By being named in the starting line-up by coach Roberto Martinez for Portugal's away match against Iceland in the fourth round of the EURO 2024 qualifiers, Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player in football history to reach 200 international matches.

Before the match between Iceland and Portugal began, the Guinness World Records Organization was present to present a certificate to Ronaldo. Speaking on this special milestone, Ronaldo shared, "200 matches played proves the love I have for my country. For me, it is an extremely important milestone. 200 is a beautiful and special number that no male player has reached. I am very proud because this is something I never thought I could reach. And I am continuing to set records."

It was even more meaningful when in this historic match, Ronaldo scored the only goal to help Portugal defeat Iceland. In the 89th minute, Goncalo Inacio headed the ball for Ronaldo to run down and finish past goalkeeper Runar Runarsson. The referee immediately blew the whistle when he thought the Portuguese player was offside but then recognized the goal thanks to VAR technology.

This was Ronaldo's 123rd goal for the Portuguese national team. He continues to maintain the record for the most goals for the national team. At the age of 38, Ronaldo still desires to conquer the top, aiming to join the Portuguese team at EURO 2024 in Germany.
