According to Reuters news agency, the French President's Office said that the country's Prime Minister, Ms. Elisabeth Borne, has resigned in the context that President Emmanuel Macron is looking to create new momentum for his second term ahead of the European Parliament elections and the Paris Olympics next summer.

President Macron sparked speculation of a government reshuffle last December by promising a new political initiative, after France was hit by political crises following controversial pension and immigration reforms in 2023.

The French President's office did not name a successor to Ms. Borne, who was appointed in May 2022 and is the second female Prime Minister in French history.

Ms Borne will continue to be in charge of related work until the new Government is formed.
