Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said on September 10 that he will reshuffle the Cabinet as early as September 13.
Mr. Kishida made the statement at a press conference on the occasion of attending the Summit of the Group of 20 leading developed and emerging economies (G20) in the Indian capital New Delhi.
The Japanese Prime Minister said that after returning to Japan on September 11, he will coordinate with all parties to consider personnel adjustments in the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) leadership and Cabinet ministers. The personnel adjustments are expected to be announced as early as September 13. According to Prime Minister Kishida, he cannot disclose specific information at the moment due to internal discussions taking place on September 11 and 12.
Previously, Japanese media speculated that Prime Minister Kishida, who is also LDP President, would keep two important figures in the party's leadership, Secretary General Toshimitsu Motegi and Vice President Taro Aso, with the goal of prioritizing the stabilization of the party's internal power base.
In addition, he may appoint new personnel to important positions in the party to prepare for the LDP presidential election next fall. Japanese media also believe that Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno and Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Tetsuo Saito - from the Komeito Party, a partner in the ruling coalition with the LDP - are likely to continue in their positions.
