In Europe, Mr. Nehammer just returned to work on January 4 after a vacation. On the evening of January 5, the Austrian Prime Minister conducted a routine PCR test and the result was negative. On January 7, he did two PCR tests and both results were positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus; meanwhile, the test results of Prime Minister Nehammer's wife and children remained negative.

The Austrian Chancellor's office said that Mr. Nehammer was likely infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus on the evening of January 5 when the leader came into contact with a member of his bodyguard team, because that staff member also tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus on January 6.

Prime Minister Nahammer said he is still healthy and has received the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, so he will be well protected against the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
