The device helps users make calls, send messages and use artificial intelligence right in the palm of their hand.
Mr. Chaudhri received the call right on the palm of his hand.
A video secretly filmed at the TED Talk conference on April 21 revealed some images and videos of the latest wearable device from the startup Humane. This is a technology company founded by two former Apple employees Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno. This wearable device impressed the event thanks to its ability to replace all the functions of a traditional smartphone.
Humane co-founder Imran Chaudhri gave viewers a closer look at the technology, which is smaller than a traditional smartphone and has cameras and sensors that allow it to project an interface onto your hand, a table, or any surface.
With the device clipped to his shirt and “projected” onto his palm, Mr. Chaudhri answers and interacts with incoming calls using voice and gesture control. Humane commented that this is a smooth combination of technology and human interaction.
“The device can be used to organize daily schedules, view directions on a map, and consult instructions when cooking or repairing electronics,” the company’s patent describes.
The device is attached directly to the user's shirt.
Mr. Chaudhri also demonstrated the device's ability to use artificial intelligence to translate English into French directly while preserving his own voice.
“This is a completely new device that is built for artificial intelligence. It is also completely independent. You don’t need a smartphone or any other device to pair with it,” Chaudhri said.
According to Inverse, the device can also listen in live and summarize the content of meetings or speeches, and even interact directly with the user. But Humane's AI does not have boring commands like Siri or Alexa. Chaudhri interacted with the device by tapping and starting to talk. The tech startup's wearable also has an LED light to notify when it is listening or has an incoming call.
“It interacts with the world the way you interact with the world, hears what you hear, sees what you see, prioritizes privacy, security,” the co-founder continued.
Additionally, the product appears to have a built-in chat chatbot similar to ChatGPT. Mr. Chaudhri tapped the device and asked, “Where can I find a gift for my wife before tomorrow?” and the AI provided the address of the nearest store.
According to ZDNet, Humane is impressive because of the team behind it, including former design director Chaudhri who worked on Mac, iPod, iPhone and Bethany Bongiorno, a former software manager on iOS, macOS. Startup Humane has successfully called230 million USDcapital from investors including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff and Microsoft.
At the event, Humane’s wearable device was introduced as an “iPhone killer” that can completely replace the functions of a smartphone. According to Digital Trends, behind this device is a series of impressive technologies. What was shown on stage was only a small corner of the true potential of this device.
“This is an interesting solution that can replace smartphones, but the question is whether it can be more convenient than swiping on an iPhone 14 Pro or Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra?”, Digital Trends writer Joe Maring commented.
