Tennis player Nguyen Thuy Linh easily defeated Azerbaijani opponent Keisha Fatimah Azzahra 21-13, 21-15 in the round of 16 of the Hylo Open 2024 tournament.
The match takes place on the evening of October 31.
Keisha is currently ranked 67th in the world, while Thuy Linh is 31st. The two players have never met before, but the difference in skill level is quickly evident. Thuy Linh showed an effective and diverse playing style, while Keisha mainly defended against difficult shots from the Vietnamese player. Most of Keisha's points came from the fourth seed's unforced errors.
In the first set, the 27-year-old player rarely hit strong smashes and mainly hit the shuttlecock behind or cut the shuttlecock short at the net to score points. Thuy Linh led her opponent 7-5, 12-7, 15-11 and went on to win 21-13.
In the second set, the player from Phu Tho still took the initiative. She played without concentration at times, making mistakes, but still led 11-8, 15-10 and closed the set at 21-15 after an accurate smash down the line.
The 35-minute victory put Thuy Linh in the quarterfinals, where she will meet sixth seed Malvika Bansod. The Indian player lost 0-2 to Thuy Linh in the first round of the Denmark Open on the afternoon of October 15. If she overcomes Bansod, Thuy Linh will meet second seed Kristy Gilmour or eighth seed Julie Jakobsen in the semi-finals.
The Hylo Open is part of the Super 300 system, taking place in Germany from October 29 to November 3, in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) competition system.
