On the afternoon of May 11, Mr. Nguyen Trong Hoan, Chief of Office of the Nghe An Department of Education and Training, said that the department's leaders had directed the Dien Chau District Department of Education and Training to temporarily suspend the teacher who beat a third-grade student for 15 days.
In addition, the school assigned teachers to coordinate with the family to take the student to the hospital for examination and treatment if there were any injuries. At the same time, the Department of Education and Training of Dien Chau district was requested to verify and fully report the incident to the department.
Mr. Hoan emphasized that this was an unfortunate incident. The Department requested that not only the Dien Chau District Department of Education and Training but also all other departments of education and training and schools across the province remind teachers to have appropriate and humane methods of educating students.
Mr. Mai Ngoc Long, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Dien Chau district, said that through initial verification, it was true that there was an incident where a teacher used a ruler to hit a student because he did not complete his homework in class.
The Department has directed the school to temporarily suspend the class with the teacher who beat the student, assign another teacher to temporarily take charge and request the school to report the incident.
"After the conclusion, depending on the level of violation, we will direct the school to hold a disciplinary council meeting to impose disciplinary action according to regulations," said Mr. Long.
On the afternoon of May 10, Ms. TTP (28 years old, residing in Dien Yen commune, Dien Chau district, Nghe An) while taking her child Ph. (8 years old) to bathe, discovered many bruises on her child's back and shoulders.
Ph. is a third grader at Dien Yen 1 Primary School. At noon that day, he came home from school and complained of pain but did not tell his mother why. When his mother asked, Ph. replied that he was beaten by his teacher because he could not do his homework in class.
