Traffic accidents in Hai Duong increased in all three aspects.

On the morning of July 12, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang, Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee, chaired a national online conference to review traffic safety work in the second quarter and set out tasks for the third quarter of 2024.

Attending at the Hai Duong bridge point were leaders and members of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, the Provincial Automobile Transport Association, and the Office of the Hai Duong Provincial Traffic Safety Committee.

According to the report of the National Traffic Safety Committee, in the first 6 months of 2024, there were 12,350 traffic accidents and collisions nationwide, killing 5,343 people and injuring 9,552 people. Compared to the same period in 2023, there was an increase of 1,665 cases (up 15.58%), a decrease of 634 deaths (down 10.61%), and an increase of 2,426 injuries (up 34%).

There are 40 provinces and cities with a decrease in the number of deaths due to traffic accidents compared to the same period in 2023, of which 6 localities have a decrease of over 30% in the number of deaths: Ca Mau, Lai Chau, Binh Thuan, Ho Chi Minh City, Hau Giang, Long An.

23 localities have an increase in the number of deaths due to traffic accidents compared to the same period in 2023, of which 9 provinces have an increase of over 20% including Kon Tum, Tuyen Quang, Vinh Long, Ha Giang, Quang Tri, Dien Bien, Lao Cai, Thua Thien Hue, Ben Tre.

In Hai Duong, in the first 6 months of 2024, there were 407 traffic accidents and collisions, killing 114 people and injuring 353 people, an increase of 246 cases (152.8%), an increase of 10 deaths (9.6%), an increase of 264 injuries (296.6%) compared to the same period in 2023; road traffic accidents accounted for 99.5%, railways accounted for 0.45% and inland waterways accounted for 0.25%.

At the conference, delegates at the connecting points focused on discussing and clarifying the results achieved in the first 6 months of the year and proposed solutions to continue reducing traffic accidents on all 3 criteria in the last months of 2024.

Concluding the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang emphasized that although the number of deaths due to traffic accidents in the first 6 months of 2024 decreased, the number of accidents and injuries increased. To curb accidents, the Deputy Prime Minister requested ministries and branches to continue focusing on 3 groups of solutions. These are to step up propaganda, raise awareness of traffic participants; manage vehicles well to prevent violations that cause accidents; prioritize investment in traffic infrastructure renovation... The authorities continue to tighten and strengthen patrols, strictly handle violations, and increase deterrence. Continue to apply technology to manage road transport business activities through data from journey monitoring devices and cameras to promptly detect, correct, and fine violations, contributing to building traffic awareness...
