On an evening in early December, father and son had a tense argument, and the man's health suddenly deteriorated. Truong was rushed to the emergency room and had surgery in time, so he survived.

The doctor said the man had a heart attack, caused by coronary artery disease, and was under emotional stress, making the condition acute and serious.

Zhang’s son is about to take the high school entrance exam, a notoriously tough exam in China. He enrolled his son in a cram school, picking him up and dropping him off every day and tutoring him with his homework.

The father is one of many Chinese parents who have been hospitalized for health problems caused by the stress of tutoring their children.

In February, a man in Zhejiang, who developed retinopathy, an eye disease that causes blurred or distorted vision, got frustrated with having to urge his son to do his homework.

In 2018, a 33-year-old mother in Jiangsu province, eastern China, suffered a stroke due to stress when her daughter spent too much time doing her homework.

In China, many teachers leave the responsibility of homework guidance to parents, leading parents to often view their children's academic performance as a reflection of their own success.

Parents pressure their children to study hard and take the national university entrance exam (gaokao)is the only way to success.

Chinese education expert Ling Zongwei advises parents to control their emotions, create a healthier learning environment for their children, and encourage them to take responsibility for their homework and academic performance.
