China's New Year celebrations were awe-inspiring with a groundbreaking performance that combined tradition and technology, thanks to the humanoid robot Unitree.

Unitree robot performs at Chinese New Year Gala

The 2025 Chinese Lunar New Year Gala took place from 0:00 on January 29 (23:00 on January 28, Hanoi time) with the participation of 16 humanoid robots from Unitree Company. Named Yangge Bot, the performance demonstrated the vitality of Yangko dance through the precision of robots and attracted audiences around the world.

One of the highlights is the humanoid robot’s ability to control a handkerchief. With precise mechanical arm movements, the handkerchief spins and flies into the air, creating a vibrant visual effect that symbolizes the intersection between tradition and modernity.

"The robot performs fully automatic position changes on stage and all dance movements are controlled by AI," Wang Qixin, marketing director of Unitree, told CGTN before the show.

Unitree is a well-known Chinese robot manufacturer. Last month, the company added human-like walking capabilities to its G1 model, which is capable of operating well on rough terrain. The Unitree G1 is an upgrade of the Unitree H1, standing 1.3 meters tall and weighing 35 kg, aimed at performing flexible tasks in areas that are difficult for humans to access. Inside, the robot is equipped with a high-performance 8-core CPU, operated through its own AI system called UnifoLM, and is expected to sell for $ 16,000 - a price that technology site The Verge said is reasonable, although not easily accessible to ordinary users.
