The National Assembly will elect the President in October 2024.

According to the National Assembly Electronic Information Portal, at the press conference on the results of the 8th Extraordinary Session on the afternoon of August 26, Ms. Nguyen Thanh Hai, Head of the National Assembly Delegation Affairs Committee, also said that according to the plan of the Party Central Committee, from now until the end of 2024, senior leadership positions and authorities at all levels will be completed. This is to strengthen the Party's leadership role in the tasks of socio-economic development, culture, national defense, security, foreign affairs and preparation for Party Congresses at all levels, towards the 14th Party Congress.

At a meeting with former Party and State leaders on August 15, General Secretary and President To Lam said that the October National Assembly session will complete senior leadership positions.

At the press conference, Secretary General of the National Assembly and Head of the National Assembly Office Bui Van Cuong said that at the beginning of the term, the Government structure had 4 Deputy Prime Ministers, but recently the National Assembly agreed to increase it to 5. The approval of the appointment of 3 more Deputy Prime Ministers at this session has completed the positions of Deputy Prime Ministers and perfected the personnel structure.

Concluding the 8th Extraordinary Session, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said that personnel work had been carried out closely, achieving high consensus and unity. The National Assembly dismissed Mr. Nguyen Hoa Binh from the position of Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court and approved the appointment of Mr. Binh as Deputy Prime Minister for the 2021-2026 term; dismissed Mr. Le Minh Tri from the position of Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme People's Procuracy to elect him as Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court.

The National Assembly approved the dismissal of Mr. Tran Luu Quang from the position of Deputy Prime Minister because he was mobilized, assigned, and appointed by the Politburo to hold the position of Head of the Central Economic Commission; elected Mr. Nguyen Huy Tien to hold the position of Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme People's Procuracy.

The National Assembly approved the appointment of Mr. Ho Duc Phoc as Deputy Prime Minister, continuing as Minister of Finance, and Mr. Bui Thanh Son as Deputy Prime Minister, continuing as Minister of Foreign Affairs, until the Ministerial positions in these two ministries are completed.

At the session, the National Assembly also approved the appointment of Yen Bai Provincial Party Secretary Do Duc Duy as Minister of Natural Resources and Environment and Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Hai Ninh as Minister of Justice for the 2021-2026 term.

Delegates voted to approve the dismissal of Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dang Quoc Khanh from their positions and the dismissal of National Assembly delegate Le Thanh Van from his position.
