The People's Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force has integrated new technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), into its 2025 annual pilot recruitment program, to increase accuracy in the talent selection process.
China Central Television (CCTV) reported on February 19 that the PLA Air Force's 2025 pilot recruitment program is now in its final stage, and will apply new technology and equipment, including AI integration.
The final stage mainly includes physical and psychological assessments. The physical assessment alone includes more than 100 different tests, which are intended to comprehensively predict and consider the candidate's long-term health and adaptability to human-machine interactions.
PLA Air Force recruitment expert Zhang Yishuang told CCTV that AI systems have been deeply integrated into the interview process. AI plays multiple roles in the recruitment process, such as an accurate evaluator, data analyst, interpreting candidates’ physical signals, assessing psychological performance, and predicting long-term risks.
In recent years, as the number of new fighter aircraft and advanced equipment increases, the physical and psychological requirements of military pilots have also increased.
The PLA Air Force's pilot recruitment program has continuously tightened the strictness and scientific accuracy of the selection criteria, the Global Times reported.
The PLA Air Force is setting up assessment centers across the country from mid-February to late April for high school graduates who have passed preliminary assessments.
Additional assessment centers will then be set up in multiple locations, focusing on individuals who performed well in China's college entrance exams, in mid- to late June.
