More and more Chinese localities are applying DeepSeek's AI model to improve administrative procedures and governance.
Shenzhen’s Longgang District authorities are using DeepSeek’s latest model to help manage their 4 million citizens. This is the first district to widely use the startup’s theoretical model in the country.
Since its launch on February 8, the DeepSeek R1 model has improved management in many ways, officials said.Southern Metropolis Daily, they said they “boldly” fed government data into the model.
The official website of Longgang District said that the AI assistant for document processing saves time in drafting and proofreading documents. Previously, it took an official 4-5 minutes to proofread 1,000 characters, but AI only takes a few seconds.
In another example, DeepSeek’s model was combined with 230,000 surveillance cameras in a county to simplify the search for missing people. The models were also used to analyze citizen feedback, helping authorities quickly identify their top concerns.
The efforts of local Chinese governments to adopt DeepSeek’s products reflect the “fever” surrounding the startup. Many major cloud service providers as well as the top three carriers – China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom – are racing to integrate DeepSeek’s AI model into their services.
While localities across the country have been using AI-based smart city solutions such as facial recognition in urban management, the DeepSeek model helps them go deeper in AI applications.
Recently, the Kunshan government in Jiangsu announced that it would integrate the DeepSeek model into its e-government system, helping various agencies explore different applications. For example, the police are considering using DeepSeek to mine massive amounts of data for clues, while the transportation department is using it to better predict traffic flows.
Suqian, another Jiangsu city, is working with JD Technology to deploy DeepSeek on its local government cloud computing platform.
