Since February 11 (the second day of Tet), many restaurants in Hai Duong City have reopened and are packed with diners.
Restaurants reopening are mainly on the streets of Pham Hong Thai, Bac Son, Tue Tinh, Mac Thi Buoi... serving familiar dishes such as vermicelli, pho, glass noodles, rice paper, and steamed rice rolls. The menu of restaurants serving Tet is similar to that of normal days, including vermicelli, pho, glass noodles, rice paper with chicken, ribs, beef, fish, crab soup...
A survey at some restaurants showed that the quality of the food was no different from usual, and the quantity of food was also similar.
Prices at restaurants have all increased compared to normal days. A bowl of fish noodle soup costs 45,000 VND, an increase of 5,000-15,000 VND compared to normal days; a balut egg costs 10,000 VND, double the normal day; a plate of rice rolls costs 50,000 VND, an increase of 15,000 VND...
Although prices have increased, there is no "price gouging". On the 2nd and 3rd days of Tet, restaurants are packed, some restaurants have to add more tables and chairs, customers have to wait quite a long time to be served.
A restaurant owner on Bac Son Street said that customers knew the prices had increased, but during Tet they were happy and understanding because the owner and staff had to cut their Tet holiday short to serve. Many customers even gave lucky money to the owner and staff.
According to many people's experience, when eating during Tet, you should choose long-standing restaurants. You should not go to restaurants that only sell during Tet because the quality will not be guaranteed or the prices will be high.
Apart from eateries, restaurants in Hai Duong city have not reopened yet.
