The Palestinian Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Mohanad AA Alaklouk, said the request was made in the context of the escalating conflict in Gaza while the Palestinian people are defenseless. Noting the actions of the Israeli army that have caused “forced displacement, destruction and famine, especially in northern Gaza,” Alaklouk called on the Arab League and its member states to assume responsibility for ending these unprecedented actions, which pose a threat to the security of Arab states in general.

Meanwhile, the Israeli army continued its ground operation in the Jabalia camp, the largest Palestinian refugee camp in Gaza, for the 16th consecutive day, claiming that the operation was aimed at preventing Hamas militants from regrouping for further attacks. According to Palestinian sources, the Israeli forces killed hundreds of Palestinians, destroyed dozens of homes and infrastructure, and forced many families to flee their homes.

On the same day, October 20, the Central Committee of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah) held a meeting in Ramallah in the central West Bank. According to a statement issued by the committee, a number of key issues were discussed, including Israel's actions in Gaza. The statement reaffirmed the Palestinian leadership's continued efforts to secure international support from the United Nations for the entire State of Palestine.
