On July 20, Republican presidential candidate, former US President Donald Trump held his first campaign rally, exactly one week after the attempted assassination of him in Pennsylvania.

Police presence was heavy at Mr Trump's campaign rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Security personnel were deployed on every street corner and block. Secret Service officers were stationed at the highest points of Van Andel Stadium, giving them a bird's-eye view of the crowd inside.

Mr. Trump appeared in Grand Rapids with his vice presidential candidate, Ohio Senator JD Vance. This was the first joint campaign event for the two figures.

Speaking at the campaign rally, the former US President repeatedly mentioned the assassination attempt against him, asserting: "I took a bullet for democracy. I am absolutely not an extremist."

After his calls for national unity earlier this week, former President Trump returned to his usual campaign tactics of attacking his opponents and repeating unverified claims about immigration, the economy and election fraud.

On July 13, a shooting occurred at a campaign event of former President Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania.

US Secret Service agents are accused of failing to stop a gunman.

Fortunately, Mr. Trump suffered an injury to one ear, which was not life-threatening. Authorities are investigating the security breach at the event.
