At around 7am on November 29, a male driver was driving a 7-seater car on the highway from Ho Chi Minh City to Dong Nai. When he had just passed the intersection with Vo Chi Cong Street, he saw smoke billowing from under the car, so he stopped the car in the emergency lane and opened the door to get out. A few minutes later, the car burst into flames with an explosion and was completely burned down after about 10 minutes.

The incident caused a traffic jam of more than 5 km on the highway. A long line of cars and container trucks inched their way from Vo Chi Cong Street.

Authorities have dispatched a fire truck and several firefighters to put out the fire. At nearly 9am, the scene has not yet been cleared and vehicles are moving slowly through the area.

Since its opening in 2015, the expressway has had dozens of vehicle fires and accidents. The route is being planned to double the width of the section through Ho Chi Minh City, from 4 to 8 lanes.
