At Cau Xe and An Tho sluice gates, Tu Ky district (Hai Duong) belonging to the Bac Hung Hai system, saline water has appeared since mid-October 2023, nearly 2 months earlier than in 2022.
According to the Cau Xe-An Tho Construction Management Station, the salinity measured at 2:00 p.m. on October 23 at An Tho sluice was 1.1‰ and Cau Xe sluice was 1.2‰; at 7:00 a.m. on November 28 at An Tho sluice was 1.7‰, exceeding the allowable threshold (allowable salinity is 1‰).
According to forecasts, in the winter-spring crop of 2023-2024, the water level of the river will continue to decrease, and the salinity will be higher than the previous crop. Exploitation units and irrigation works are regularly monitoring and observing salinity to have plans to regulate irrigation. When the salinity exceeds 1‰, water cannot be taken for agricultural production.
