A 9th grade female student in An Lao district, Hai Phong, had an accident while sleeping with the air conditioner on and then suffocated in a car. She is not eligible for special admission to 10th grade at a public school.
Medical team rescues victims of suffocation caused by turning on the air conditioner while sleeping in a car
Regarding the incident in which a female student and two other relatives in An Lao district had an accident while sleeping with the air conditioner on and then suffocating in a car due to a power outage, as reported earlier, a representative of the Hai Phong Department of Education and Training said that according to the admission regulations, this female student did not meet the conditions to be considered for special consideration to enter grade 10 at a public high school.
Proposal for special treatment for female student who suffocated in car
Mr. Vu Ngoc Dung, head of the Department of Education and Training of An Lao district, said that he had instructed the family and the school to make a petition to have a basis for reporting to the Department of Education and Training of Hai Phong, to consider special admission for female student Pham Ngoc K. (9th grade student of Truong Son Secondary School, An Lao district) to be directly admitted to Quoc Tuan High School.
Previously, on the evening of June 1, K. suffocated due to turning on the air conditioner while sleeping in the family car with two other relatives, so he was unable to take the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2023-2024 school year.
According to the plan, on the morning of June 2, K. will take the literature exam in the entrance exam for grade 10 of the 2023-2024 school year. However, due to a power outage in Truong Son town, An Lao district (where K. lives) from the evening of June 1 to about 3 a.m. on June 2, a tragic accident occurred when K., her father and sister turned on the air conditioner to sleep and suffocated in the car, requiring emergency care.
The accident left K.'s 20-year-old sister dead. Doctors at Kien An General Hospital tried their best to save her father and the student K. from the critical condition.
Not eligible for special consideration for public school
Regarding the information requesting special consideration for the female student in the accident, the leader of the Department of Education and Training Office said that after receiving information about the incident, the Education Trade Union organized a visit to share with the student and her family.
Currently, the Department has not received any proposal from the Department of Education and Training of An Lao District regarding the direction of ensuring the rights of the victim students. However, according to the admission regulations, there is no content to apply special consideration in this case.
Therefore, if students wish to continue studying in grade 10 of high school in the 2023-2024 school year, the department will ask private schools to accept them and at the same time apply maximum support for tuition fees and other fees during the study process.
If students wish to continue studying in grade 10 of a public high school, they will have to take the entrance exam for grade 10 in the 2024-2025 school year.
