Nam Sach farmers grow coriander for good income

An Son, Nam Trung, and Nam Chinh communes in Nam Sach district (Hai Duong) are growing 23.5 hectares of coriander, of which An Son commune grows the most with 15 hectares. Coriander has a good price and brings in a good income.

An Son commune has 40 hectares of vegetables, of which 15 hectares are used to grow coriander, an increase of 2 hectares compared to last year.According to the leader of An Son Commune Agricultural Service Cooperative, farmers plan to plant another 15 hectares of coriander next year.

This year the weather is favorable so the coriander grows well. From sowing to harvesting is 3 months, after cutting and selling, the old roots will grow new plants, about 1 month to cut and sell a batch. Coriander can be harvested all year round.

Depending on the time of year, coriander is sold for 12,000-20,000 VND/kg. Compared to the same period last year, the price increased by 2,000-5,000 VND/kg. According to local farmers, each year they harvest 3-3.5 tons of vegetables/sao, after deducting costs, they earn 20-25 million VND/sao/year. 1 hectare of coriander brings in nearly 700 million VND/year, 7 times higher than rice cultivation.

Nam Trung commune has 6.5 hectares of coriander growing in the peak harvest season.

Trader Nguyen Van Nam comes to Nam Trung commune to buy 2-3 tons/day and sell to all provinces.

Nam Chinh commune grows 2 hectares of coriander. Some farmers said that after 1 month of sowing, they started covering the seeds with black nets to reduce the temperature for the vegetables to grow well.

Mr. Tran Van Uoc in Nam Chinh commune grows 9 sao of coriander, each sao after deducting expenses he earns nearly 30 million VND/year.
