The weather this year is not favorable due to little rain, but onion farmers in Nam Sach are still excited because onions are selling well. Each sao of onions brings in revenue from 8 to 13 million VND/sao, depending on the quality of the onions.
Nam Trung commune has 210 hectares of vegetable growing area, of which 170 hectares are used to grow onions. Early onions are sold for 30,000-33,000 VND/kg, 1,000-3,000 VND/kg higher than the previous crop, farmers earn a profit of 5-8 million VND/sao. Typically, Mr. Nguyen Van Manh in Thuy Tra village grows 45 hectares of onions, while the rest of the commune has at least a few hectares. The onions here are harvested later so they are sold at a lower price, an average of about 9 million VND/sao.Ms. Nguyen Thi Trang in Binh Da village, An Lam commune, wakes up at 4am to cut onions for hire, is paid 1,500 VND/kg, and can cut nearly 200 kg of onions a day.People of An Lam commune carry onions to sell to traders in the commune.Quoc Tuan commune has 150 hectares of vegetables, of which 112 hectares are onions. Mr. Pham Cong Hung here said that this year there was little rain so the quality of this onion crop was not as good as the previous crop, but the price was good, so people were excited.There are still some areas of onions that have not been harvested yet.
