According to the Hai Duong Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, by October 9, farmers in the province had harvested nearly 20,000 hectares of winter-spring rice, four times faster than the same period last year and reaching over 33% of the winter-spring rice area.
The harvested early-season rice area focuses on short-term rice varieties such as Q5, Khang Dan, Thien Uu 8...
According to the assessment of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection of Hai Duong, this year's weather is basically favorable, with few heavy rains, so the rice grows and develops well, with few pests and diseases. At the end of the season, the weather is sunny and dry, so farmers harvest quickly. The early rice yield is estimated at 61.5 quintals/ha, 2 quintals/ha higher than the early rice crop last year.
Early-season rice areas that have been harvested are concentrated in some localities such as Gia Loc district, Thanh Mien district, Kinh Mon town, Hai Duong city, Chi Linh city... Farmers in these areas mainly grow early winter crops, so they need to be harvested quickly to keep up with the season.
The Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection recommends that farmers take advantage of the dry weather to quickly harvest the early and mid-season rice that has ripened. Ensure enough water for the late-season rice to flower and become firm. Monitor and provide timely guidance on preventing stem rot, neck blast and brown planthoppers in late-season rice.
