Airstrikes continued overnight into the morning of October 6, after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to redouble his fight against Hezbollah, the Islamist militant group that has fired rockets and mortars into the north of his country.

An Al Jazeera correspondent reported a “huge explosion” in the southern suburbs of Beirut, saying she witnessed at least two air strikes.

Videos posted by regional media showed a bright fireball followed by a loud explosion. RT quoted an Israeli military statement posted on social media X saying they were attacking Hezbollah targets in Beirut.

The IDF intensified its bombing of Lebanon in late September and has since launched a ground offensive into the neighboring country. Tel Aviv says the goal of the operation is to secure northern Israel and allow some 70,000 residents who were displaced by cross-border raids by Hezbollah to return.

According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, more than 2,000 people have been killed in Israeli airstrikes and more than 1.2 million others have been displaced from their homes. Meanwhile, the IDF claims to have eliminated about 440 Hezbollah members since the start of its ground campaign in Lebanon in early October.

Israel receives 30 missiles in response from Lebanon

The IDF reported that approximately 30 rockets were launched from Lebanon into Israeli territory early on October 6 local time. The Israeli military successfully intercepted some of these hostile rockets. Authorities have not yet reported any casualties in the incident.

According to CNN, at around 0:30 on October 6, sirens blared throughout the Kiryat Shmona area, northern Israel.

In the morning, Hezbollah issued two statements saying that the group had fired rockets at Israeli soldiers in the Al-Manara settlement and surrounding areas in northern Israel to aid Palestinians and defend Lebanon. In a third statement, Hezbollah revealed that it had targeted Israeli forces in the same area as they were "evacuating wounded and dead soldiers."
