Authorities plan to use explosives to remove a rock block weighing more than 100 tons blocking Khanh Le Pass, causing a landslide that paralyzed traffic on the Nha Trang - Da Lat route.
The above content was said by Mr. Chu Van An, Deputy Director in charge of the Department of Transport of Khanh Hoa province this morning, December 16, about the plan to handle landslides on National Highway 27C through Khanh Le Pass, Khanh Vinh district.
Mr. An said that the landslide occurred on Khanh Le Pass, causing a large amount of rock and soil to fall down, blocking the road of National Highway 27C, since yesterday until now. Many forces were mobilized to handle the landslide. However, early this morning, a rock weighing over 100 tons fell down, blocking the road at Km43+400 through Son Thai commune.
"Specialized units mobilized human resources and equipment to handle it, but the rock was too large to handle. We had no choice but to use explosives to break the rock," said Mr. An, adding that explosives would be used to break the rock this afternoon and traffic is expected to be open tomorrow afternoon.
According to Mr. An, in addition to this location, at Km61+750, a large crack appeared across the pass road. This location recorded signs of subsidence, the largest width was about 20cm. Khanh Hoa Road Management and Construction Joint Stock Company will compensate for the concrete mix to ensure safety and take measures to handle it.
After a prolonged rain yesterday, December 15, National Highway 27C through Khanh Le Pass, the road connecting Nha Trang - Da Lat, was hit by landslides at many points. A large amount of soil flooded down, blocking the road, paralyzing traffic. About 350 people in vehicles were isolated at different locations between the landslide locations.
Khanh Hoa and Lam Dong provincial authorities have crossed hills and forests to provide food and water to stranded people.
Hours later, more than 350 people were evacuated from the danger zone and moved to safety.
Authorities mobilized hundreds of personnel and vehicles to clean up and handle landslides to ensure the early reopening of National Highway 27C.
