In 2023, the Vietnamese four-wheel market witnessed a record number of vehicle launches and helped revive industry sales that were struggling due to various factors.

By 2024, a series of new car models will be introduced as well as upgrades from familiar models that promise to diversify the product range in the Vietnamese market as well as serve the needs of consumers.

Toyota Corolla Cross 2024

Although Toyota Vietnam has not officially announced it, recently, sales staff at some authorized dealers of the car company have revealed plans to accept pre-orders for the 2024 Corolla Cross model. Accordingly, car buyers can deposit to reserve a spot with the dealer and the car is expected to be delivered to customers who have placed orders from next May.

Although it has confirmed that deposits have been accepted for the car, information about the price and specifications of the upgraded Corolla Cross has not been revealed. Most likely, the upgraded version of this urban SUV will be similar to the Corolla Cross 2024 version confirmed to be launched in the Thai market in February.

In the upgraded version, Corolla Cross has slight exterior tweaks, notably the headlights and taillights have changed to look more eye-catching and quite similar to the design currently distributed in its home country of Japan. In addition, the 18-inch wheels have also been renewed.

Compared to the current version, the difference in this upgrade is mainly inside the cabin. To increase competitiveness, the Japanese automaker has boldly added a series of amenities and technologies to the car such as sunroof, air filter, electronic handbrake, 12.3-inch electronic dashboard, 10.5-inch entertainment screen with integrated wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, 9-speaker JBL system...

In terms of performance, the car still retains the same engine options including a 1.8-liter gasoline engine and a hybrid engine, but is likely to be improved in performance. When coming to Vietnam in the new version, Corolla Cross is expected to apply a competitive price to increase its appeal when the car's sales last year only reached 10,485 vehicles, down 50% compared to the same period in 2022.

Omoda C5

After being displayed at several events, the Omoda C5 duo from Chery from China was introduced in Vietnam at a test drive event on January 20-21 at the Dragon Hill International Tourist Area, Hai Phong. This is also the company's first model in the Vietnamese market. The company's representative also said that it is expected that in the early third quarter of 2024, the Omoda C5 will be officially introduced.

The Omoda C5 crossover model has dimensions of length x width x height of 4,400 x 1,830 x 1,588 (mm), a wheelbase of 2,630mm, belonging to the B-class SUV segment - the most "crowded" segment in the Vietnamese market today with hot names such as Hyundai Creta, KIA Setlos, Mazda CX-3, Honda HR-V, Toyota Corolla Cross, Toyota Yaris Cross, MG ZS, Peugeot 2008... and recently the rookie Mitsubishi Xforce.

The exterior of the Omoda C5 follows the current trend when there are not too many cutting lines but instead is smooth. Notably, the front of the car is bold with a borderless grille connecting the two positioning lights above, below is the Bi-Led headlight cluster, 18-inch wheels in both versions.

The interior is not too special, typical common trends include sports front seats, D-cut steering wheel, digital dashboard, central touch screen, wireless phone charger. The standard version is equipped with manual seats, faux leather and fabric upholstery, the advanced version uses electric leather seats and is equipped with a sunroof like many advanced versions of other B-class SUVs.

In return for the unimpressive interior and exterior, the Omoda C5 has plus points in terms of safety systems and engines. The car has 6 airbags, a 360-degree camera and 14 ADAS active safety features. This is a system that is rarely found in B-class SUVs in Vietnam except for Mitsubishi Xforce, Toyota Corolla Cross, Honda HR-V.

The heart of the Omoda C5 is a 1.5L turbocharged engine, 150 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque, and a 9-speed CVT gearbox. With these parameters, the Chinese SUV is the most powerful in its segment. However, the car only has 2 modes: sport driving and economy driving.

Currently, the selling price of Omoda C5 in Vietnam has not been disclosed but is rumored to be in the range of 700-800 million VND, higher than Kia Seltos (649-749 million VND), Mazda CX-3 (649-729 million VND), Hyundai Creta (640-740 million VND), MG ZS (528-628 million VND) but cheaper than Honda HR-V (826-871 million VND), Toyota Corolla Cross (746-936 million VND) and Mazda CX-30 (849-909 million VND).

Volvo C40 Recharge

According to a recent share from Volvo's representative in Vietnam, the C40 Recharge or EX30 may be distributed by the company in the second half of 2024, starting Volvo's electric vehicle business in Vietnam. Previously, Volvo's distributor brought the C40 model back to the country for market research and testing, so the possibility of the C40 arriving will be higher.

In Southeast Asia, Volvo C40 is currently manufactured at a factory in Malaysia. This is an advantage for cars imported to Vietnam to enjoy a 0% tax incentive if the C40 meets a localization rate of 40% or more.

The C40 is positioned as a small coupe-style crossover with a C-pillar that tapers towards the rear. The design of the pure electric model has many similarities with the gasoline-powered XC40 because of the same platform. However, the closed grille or the Recharge lettering on the C-pillar helps distinguish this model from the internal combustion engine version.

The interior of the Volvo C40 Recharge features a 9-inch vertical center display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and an ADAS safety support system.

The Volvo C40 Recharge is equipped with two electric motors with a capacity of 402 horsepower and a maximum torque of 670 Nm, with a 78 kWh battery pack that allows it to travel 420km on a full charge. The car is expected to be imported from Malaysia with an estimated price of nearly 2 billion VND.

Lexus LM 2024

Recently, a Lexus Thang Long sales consultant announced that they are accepting deposits for the new generation LM 500h. Currently, Lexus Vietnam has not announced the launch date and delivery date for the car to customers. However, the fact that the sales consultant is accepting deposits for the LM 500h shows that the launch date of this model is not far away, most likely in the second quarter of this year.

Lexus' luxury MPV model is expected to arrive in the Vietnamese market this year.

Lexus LM is designed based on the platform of the new generation Toyota Alphard. The car has overall dimensions of length x width x height of 5,040 x 1,980 x 1,840 (mm), with a wheelbase of 3,000mm. Compared to the previous generation, the new Lexus LM is 100mm longer, 50mm wider and 15mm higher.

The interior of the Lexus LM is luxuriously designed with high-quality Nappa leather seats, with electric adjustment, massage and heating functions. The rear seats are designed in a sofa style, which can be folded flat to create a comfortable resting space. Some of the car's valuable amenities include a digital dashboard connected to a 14-inch touch screen, high-end Mark Levinson speakers, 64-color ambient lighting with 14 themes, electronic handbrake and temporary brake hold feature, 2-side sunroof...

The 2024 Lexus LM 500h uses a hybrid engine combined with a 2.4L gasoline engine and 2 electric motors. This engine produces a total capacity of 349 horsepower and a maximum torque of 460 Nm, combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The selling price, delivery time and technical specifications have not been disclosed. However, this information has not been confirmed by Lexus Vietnam. The company currently distributes the old LM with 2 versions: 7 seats and 4 seats, selling prices of 7.21 billion VND and 8.61 billion VND respectively.

The new Lexus LM was first introduced at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2023. After that, the car continued to be launched in many countries in the Southeast Asian region such as: Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Brunei... Therefore, it is not surprising that the new Lexus LM will also soon be available in Vietnam.
