In summer, you should choose to camp near areas with water sources such as the sea, rivers, streams, and lakes.

Summer is hot but many people still choose to go camping as a form of summer vacation. In addition to monitoring the weather to choose the right time, some notes below will be useful for you when camping this summer. Experience is shared by Mr. Duy Pham, who has many years of providing camping services and some members on the forum Invite each other to camp with more than 200,000 members.

Select location

Areas near the sea, rivers, streams, lakes or primeval forests are suitable locations for summer camping. Locations near water sources help the surrounding space to be cooler. This is also a place where you can comfortably bathe and swim. However, you need to keep an eye on children.

Recently, camping services on the lake have appeared in some places, bringing both a new feeling and being suitable for the summer.

Choose a tent

Use a double-walled tent that can withstand rain and heat. Many tents are now made with UPF 50+ fabric, which blocks 98% of UV rays. These tents may be darker but will limit heat gain.

With a double-layer tent, at night you only need to use the mesh layer to keep the space inside airy and prevent insects.

The important thing about summer camping tents is to ensure ventilation. Therefore, you should choose a tent with mesh windows. These are large, symmetrical windows that both bring cool air inside and push hot air out, helping the air circulate and preventing heat gain. If not ventilated, the tent will be stuffy, causing heat and discomfort for the people inside.

Tent location

Always pitch your tent in the shade, avoid direct sunlight for too long or too much, which will cause the tent and the space inside to absorb heat. The tent should be set up under the shade of large trees, providing stable shade all day long.

Cooling down when the tent gets hot is also a consideration. If that’s not enough, you can use a reflective shade or blanket to create extra shade over the tent.

Bring heat protection gear

Mini portable air conditioners, rechargeable fans, mist fans, and handheld fans are essential items to bring to cool down your tent during summer camping. If you are near a power source, you can also bring regular fans. These items are most needed at noon.

Most of the above equipment is usually quite expensive, you should find out in advance to rent at places that provide camping services.

What to bring

An ice chest or cooler (insulated, moisture-proof box) is a must-have item for summer camping. In addition to storing ice, these items are useful for storing food, vegetables, and fresh fruit for cooking.

You should also bring more wet towels or cotton towels, absorbent and placed in the tent or around the neck or forehead, to help cool the body when the temperature rises.

Enough drinking water

To have a refreshing and cool trip, food and drinks to bring or order services need to be suitable. Of which, drinking water is very important.

In addition to water, bring along other beverages such as fruit juice. And of course, ice. Also, avoid drinking too many sugary or alcoholic drinks as they can dehydrate your body.

Suitable schedule

Scheduling outdoor activities appropriately is also something to keep in mind when going camping in the summer. During the hottest part of the day, usually between 11am and 3pm, you should not go out, especially with children. Only do activities during cool times such as early morning or late evening. Instead, rest in tents or shady areas.

Choose the right outfit

Not only for camping and summer outings, you should choose light, loose and breathable clothes, made from sweat-absorbent materials. You should also choose light-colored clothes that reflect sunlight instead of colors that absorb heat.
