From July 1, regulations on biometric authentication in electronic banking transactions come into effect. From early morning, many people came to the bank for support.

Today, July 1, is the first day that the regulation on biometric authentication on banking applications when transferring money according to Decision 2345/QD-NHNN of the State Bank takes effect. Accordingly, people who want to transfer money from banking applications with an amount of over 10 million VND/transaction or over 20 million VND/day must authenticate biometric information.

The number of people installing biometrics on July 1 is relatively large.

A common mistake during home installation is connecting information from the chip-embedded citizen identification card to the smartphone. In addition, many people do not pay attention to notifications from the banking system and therefore do not know about the information that biometrics must be installed.

Due to the large number of people installing biometric applications on July 1, many banks' electronic applications failed.

Due to the large number of people installing biometrics, including Hai Duong and other provinces and cities across the country, on July 1, many banks' electronic applications had access errors. Many people encountered the situation of installing and re-installing "5 times 7 times" but still failed.

Bank representatives recommend that people who do not need to transfer more than 10 million VND/transaction or no more than 20 million VND in total transactions per day can wait for biometric authentication in the following days to avoid system overload.

Despite receiving support from the bank, this man has installed biometrics many times but has not been successful.

In particular, banks warn people about the situation of impersonating bank staff to install biometrics. The subjects contact customers by phone, text message, make friends through social networks (Zalo, Facebook...) to guide the collection of biometric information. Then, ask customers to provide personal information, bank account information, citizen identification card images, customer facial images for support. The subjects may ask people to access a certain link to download and install an application to support biometric collection, or may request a video call to collect additional voices and gestures. After obtaining the victim's information, the subjects proceed to appropriate money in bank accounts and use the customer's information for malicious purposes.

People who need support can go directly to banks, absolutely do not listen to biometric installation instructions over the phone or access strange links, to avoid having their bank account information stolen by criminals.

Banks do not contact customers directly to provide instructions on how to collect biometrics. People should never provide OTP codes, digital banking passwords, etc. to anyone, including bank employees; be vigilant, do not access strange links via chat, SMS or email sent to the phone to avoid the risk of being scammed or having information stolen. People can go directly to banks for support.

According to Decision 2345 mentioned above and referenced from some banks, biometric installation is only done once. Therefore, after installing biometrics, if people have their bank account information leaked, or their phone with an electronic banking application installed falls into the hands of criminals, they still face the risk of having their money stolen.

To ensure safety, after successfully installing biometrics, people can choose a transaction amount (VND 5 million/transaction, VND 10 million/transaction... depending on the bank) to request authentication. For transactions reaching the selected amount, the banking application will request biometric authentication.
