Based on the proposal of the Vietnam Register, the Ministry of Transport is drafting a Circular promulgating National Technical Regulations on technical requirements and testing methods for motorcycle and motorbike rims and wheels.
This draft has many new points. Compared with the provisions of National Technical Regulation QCVN 46:2012/BGTVT, the new draft adds an explanation of the terms rim, rim plate, wheel rim to identify the object.
Specifically, the National Technical Regulation explains that alloy rims with a monolithic structure are alloy rims in which the rim and spokes or rims are manufactured as a single block from the alloy.
Composite alloy wheels are alloy wheels in which the rim is made from alloy and the spokes or rims are made from alloy or other materials and they are assembled together.
However, the new draft explains that the wheel rim is the load-bearing part between the tire and the axle, usually consisting of two main parts: the rim and the rim plate, which can be manufactured as a single piece or as a composite structure.
The rim is the part of the wheel rim that fits the tire and holds the tire.
Rim plate/wheel rim plate detail of wheel rim, is the part between the axle and the rim.
A one-piece construction wheel is a wheel in which the rim and the rim are manufactured as one piece.
A composite wheel rim is a wheel rim whose rim, spokes or rim hub are joined together into a single unit through (removable) joints.
Rim type, wheel rim is rim, wheel rim is considered to be the same type if it has the same design, brand, manufacturing facility, manufacturing facility address and there is no difference in one of the following technical characteristics:
Nominal diameter code and width code;
Rim structure, wheel rim;
Use for tires (tube or tubeless);
Maximum permissible load on the wheel;
Rim and wheel rim materials.
The new draft also clearly stipulates technical requirements for rims and wheel rims. In which, rims used in wheel rims with spoked structure must meet the following requirements: Rim diameter deviation must not be greater than 1.2 mm.
The flatness of the rim is measured by placing the rim on a flat surface. The maximum gap between the rim and the reference plane must not be greater than 0.8 mm.
