In a warning issued for the Izu and Ogasawara Islands (southern Japan), the Japan Meteorological Agency stressed that tsunami waves up to 1 meter high were rapidly forming and could hit the coastal area on the morning of September 24.
The earthquake occurred at 8:14 a.m. local time (6:14 a.m. the same day Vietnam time), with its epicenter in the sea near the Torishima archipelago, at a depth of 10km.
