A tsunami warning has been issued for Miyazaki and Kochi prefectures after an earthquake struck 19km south-southeast of Miyazaki prefecture in Japan.
On the afternoon of August 8, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said that a 7.1 magnitude earthquake had just occurred in Japan, 19km south-southeast of Miyazaki province.
The epicenter, at a depth of 8.8 km, was determined at latitude 31.75 degrees North and 131.48 degrees East.
Meanwhile, according to Kyodo, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake occurred southwest of Miyazaki province, Japan.
According to Japanese authorities, a tsunami warning has been issued in Miyazaki and Kochi provinces.
According to NHK, the tsunami hit Miyazaki Prefecture. Meanwhile, Kyodo News reported that the tsunami was 20cm high. There have been no reports of major damage caused by the tsunami.
Meanwhile, authorities have also warned of a 1-meter-high tsunami in the western areas of Kyushu and Shikoku islands.
The Shinkansen railway system in Kyushu has been temporarily suspended.
Authorities have not detected any abnormalities at the Sendai nuclear power plant in Kagoshima prefecture and the plant is currently operating normally.
