Nguyen Tien Minh lost the No. 1 position in men's singles of Vietnamese badminton after 21 years, when Nguyen Hai Dang surpassed his senior in the world rankings.

According to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings on March 14, Nguyen Tien Minh dropped 2 places to world number 165 with a score of 8,720. Meanwhile, Nguyen Hai Dang rose 5 places to world number 163 with a score of 8,910.

Thus, Nguyen Tien Minh lost the No. 1 position in men's singles in Vietnam after 21 years, and Nguyen Hai Dang became the new No. 1 badminton player in Vietnam.


Badminton World Federation Ranking Update

Reaching the second round of the Thailand International Challenge helped Nguyen Hai Dang move up the world rankings. In this tournament, Nguyen Tien Minh was eliminated in the first round.

Nguyen Tien Minh started competing internationally in 2002, ranked 252nd in the world, when he was already the number 1 badminton player in Vietnam. At the peak of his career, the player born in 1983 was ranked 5th in the world in December 2010.

Nguyen Hai Dang was born in 2000 and his world ranking of 163 is the highest ranking he has achieved on the World Badminton Federation's rankings.
