The Ministry of Education and Training directed the immediate planning and implementation of school infrastructure repairs, especially prioritizing items that pose a risk to the safety of teachers and students.
On September 10, the Minister of Education and Training (MOET) issued Official Dispatch No. 1200/CD-BGDĐT to the Directors of the Departments of Education and Training of provinces and centrally-run cities regarding the direction of recovery work after storm No. 3 (Yagi).
The dispatch clearly stated that the circulation of storm No. 3 caused widespread heavy rain, causing severe damage to localities. In order to quickly overcome the consequences and soon stabilize teaching and learning activities, the Minister of Education and Training requested the Directors of the Departments of Education and Training of provinces and centrally-run cities to urgently overcome the consequences of natural disasters. Coordinate with health agencies to disinfect and clean classrooms, preventing the risk of disease outbreaks after the storm. Ensure school safety conditions and environmental sanitation before welcoming students back to school.
Long and prolonged periods of rain make the water-soaked soil soft and weak, with a high risk of landslides. The Ministry of Education and Training requires proactively reviewing and inspecting constructions at risk of being unsafe in order to have plans for repair and remediation. Resolutely not putting into use constructions that do not ensure quality and are at risk of collapse.
Plan and implement immediate repairs to school infrastructure, prioritizing items that pose a risk to the safety of teachers and students. Evacuate students, teachers, facilities and teaching equipment from severely damaged or unsafe areas.
Check the tree system, fences, school gates, have plans to prune branches, prevent wall collapse, tree fall. Especially check schools, educational facilities near rivers, streams, near areas at risk of flooding, landslides to warn or stop students from going to school if it is unsafe.
The Ministry also requested to ensure timely provision of essential supplies and teaching equipment to affected educational establishments. Psychological support should be provided to teachers and students affected by the storm, especially families suffering loss of life and property.
Strengthen coordination with departments, branches and localities in providing relief and overcoming consequences after the storm, especially supporting families of teachers and students who suffered heavy losses.
It is necessary to have a plan to prepare facilities, equipment, supplies, and necessary items for students in boarding schools to ensure safety, thoughtfulness, and convenience for students.
