Nghe An busts two cases of smuggling fireworks from abroad, hidden in abandoned houses

After buying illegal fireworks from abroad to Vietnam, the suspects left them in many places such as abandoned houses and closed farms to avoid the eyes of authorities.

Evidence seized of more than 1.9 tons of fireworks at Nghi Loc District Police, Nghe An

On December 26, information from Nghi Loc District Police, Nghe An said that this unit had just presided over and coordinated with professional units of Nghe An Provincial Police to destroy two trafficking and storage rings of more than 1.9 tons of firecrackers.

Accordingly, in just two days, December 24 and 26, under the direction of Colonel Bui Quang Thanh - Director of Nghe An Provincial Police, Nghi Loc District Police - presided over the arrest of four suspects for the illegal trading and storage of firecrackers.

The seized evidence included more than 1.23 tons of firecrackers, a car, and four cell phones. The ringleaders were Ho Viet Son (28 years old) and Nguyen Canh San (41 years old).

Expanding the case, in addition to Son and San, the authorities also arrested Nguyen Canh Truong (37 years old) and Ho Viet Hung (36 years old).

All four suspects in this case live in Nghi Dien commune, Nghi Loc district.

According to Nghi Loc police, the method of this group of suspects was to buy illegal fireworks from abroad to Vietnam through unofficial channels and then gather them in provinces along the border.

The suspects then disguised the fireworks in different containers on the car to transport them to Nghe An.

To avoid being detected by authorities, after buying fireworks and bringing them to Nghe An, the suspects did not hide them at home but kept them in many places such as abandoned houses, farms, and sealed them up and sent them to relatives' homes.

Previously, on December 24, Nghi Loc District Police presided over and coordinated with Vinh City Police to arrest Nguyen The Manh (37 years old, residing in Nghi Thinh Commune, Nghi Loc District) and Dau Thanh Tuan (36 years old, residing in Hung Dong Commune, Vinh City) for illegally buying, selling, and storing firecrackers.

Seized evidence included 672 kg of various types of fireworks and two cars.

With more than 1.9 tons of fireworks in two cases busted, this is the largest amount of fireworks discovered and seized by Nghe An Police since the beginning of 2023.
