The poem "The Wind of Hang Duong" is a heartfelt expression of gratitude and admiration for the heroic spirits who "incarnated into mother earth" to bring a prosperous and peaceful life to the Fatherland.

THE WIND OF THE POPLING

The graves…
No stock
No way
How many graves…
Nameless
Ageless
Incense sticks swaying
The winding grass path…
In the illusory incense smoke of the afternoon
Startled as someone said:
We lie here without order.
Fall down for the homeland who chooses the place for you!
Where is the straight line?
In prison, cell
Legs in chains
Must stretch to salute the national flag
Where is the straight line?
In a few square meters of tiger cage
Face down to cover each other, toxic lime poured on the head
They executed
A few shallow and deep hoe strokes
We have transformed into mother earth
On the grass path you walk, my friend, can you
Someone is lying, no grave, no name!
I gently stroked the soft grass blades
Hear my heart ache
Hang Duong, the wind has been calling for thousands of years
Fall down for the homeland who chooses the place for you!

Dr. Nguyen

The epic tendency and tragic inspiration about the country and people have become the source of emotions in many poems of Nguyen Tien Si. Living in the vast and windy land of the Central Highlands, once returning to Con Dao to visit Hang Duong cemetery, listening to the tour guide recounting many stories about the heroic sacrifices of those who fell, poet Nguyen Tien Si composedThe sound of the wind in Hang Duong. The poem is a heartfelt expression of gratitude and admiration for the heroic spirits who have "incarnated into mother earth", bringing a prosperous and peaceful life to the Fatherland.

Free verse, along with simple, sincere expression and bursting emotions, gives the poem its own unique content and artistry.

Nguyen Tien Si is considered a poet with many impressive works because of his simple yet emotional writing style. The topic of war invalids and martyrs is always his focus. The epic quality and inspiration about the country and people always linger in many pages of Nguyen Tien Si's poems, includingWind Sound of Hang Duongreally brought special feelings.

In the first three stanzas of eight lines, poet Nguyen Tien Si impressively described the anonymous graves in Hang Duong cemetery - Con Dao. These are graves "without rows or paths" (in the sense of the original sacrifice) and "without names or ages". As Nguyen Khoa Diem said, these are people who "lived and died/ simply and calmly/ no one remembers their faces or names/ but they created the Country".

On the grass path leading to those anonymous graves, a moment of emotion welled up, the poet looked at the swaying incense smoke and felt his heart ache. The structure of some verses is repetitive, reiterative, sharp and concise as if wanting to engrave more deeply, highlight in the reader's mind the simple, heroic examples.

The graves…

No stock

No way

How many graves…

Nameless

Ageless

Incense sticks swaying

The winding grass path…

The next four stanzas, consisting of twelve lines of poetry, are the author’s deep spiritual empathy with the souls of martyrs through a hypothetical dialogue. To explain the “no place, no path” of the anonymous graves, the poet listens to the echo from the void “the illusory incense smoke in the afternoon”. That is also the structure, the thought that runs throughout the poem “falling for the homeland, who will choose a place for me!”:

In the illusory incense smoke of the afternoon

Startled as someone said:

We lie here without order.

Fall down for the homeland who chooses the place for you!

Not being able to choose a place for themselves, it is natural that graves have “no rows, no paths”, “incense smoke is scattered”. From that reality, with deep spiritual empathy, Nguyen Tien Si seemed to hear the voices of many deceased souls. The torture of the harsh prison regime has caused those who have fallen to suffer many hardships, living a life worse than death. However, their patriotism and steadfastness before the Fatherland remain unshaken. They “stretched” to salute the national flag when their hands were tied and their feet were shackled.

Where is the straight line?

In prison, cell

Legs in chains

Must stretch to salute the national flag

Where is the straight line?

In a few square meters of tiger cage

Face down to cover each other, toxic lime poured on the head

Since then, the steadfast people have gone into the motherland through the barbaric executions and hasty burials of the enemy. The hasty “several shallow and deep hoes” made the graves impossible to be in a straight line. Only the hearts and patriotism of those who fell will forever be immortal, loyal to the Fatherland and the people:

They executed

A few shallow and deep hoe strokes

We have transformed into mother earth

The poem ends with six lines of poetry as a message to the living and the author's attitude of gratitude. The gentle words, the whispering voice, the respectful action of "gently stroking the soft grass leaves" have contributed to conveying the author's sincere feelings before the many heroes of the Fatherland:

On the grass path you walk, my friend, can you

Someone is lying, no grave, no name!

I gently stroked the soft grass blades

Hear my heart ache

Hang Duong, the wind has been calling for thousands of years

Fall down for the homeland who chooses the place for you!

The image of the winds of the Poplar trees “still calling for thousands of years” at the end of the poem sounds so poignant and full of emotions. It is the echo of gratitude from all things in the universe, the regret of the people and many future generations for those who “fell for their homeland, who would choose a place for them!”

Wind Sound of Hang Duongis a poem that summarizes the losses and sacrifices of generations of fathers and brothers in the cause of defending the Fatherland. The author does not call for patriotism, does not call for gratitude, but through his caring attitude, sacred gestures and deep gratitude, he has touched the souls of many generations today and tomorrow about gratitude for their roots, knowing how to cherish the value of independence and the current peaceful life of the country.

Wind sound of Duong rowhas a coherent poetic idea, creating a new structure, contributing to the success of the poem. The work evokes patriotism and deep gratitude towards the generation of those who have sacrificed for the Fatherland. Therefore, the lesson for today's generation is to be responsible for the country, to strive to study and practice continuously so as not to let down the efforts of many people who were ready to sacrifice themselves for the Fatherland.
