The “Victory Letter” campaign was launched across Russia from May 6, as part of a series of activities commemorating the victory in the Great Patriotic War (1939 - 1945).
The social organization “Volunteers of Victory” calls on all Russians to write letters expressing gratitude and sending warm wishes to veterans of the Great Patriotic War, which will be collected by volunteers and delivered to veterans before Victory Day on May 9.
The campaign received enthusiastic support from volunteers. Ms. Ekaterina Maslova from Kaluga Oblast said she was very touched by the “Victory Letter” campaign when children of all ages participated in writing words of gratitude to the heroes who defended the Fatherland. According to her, the fact that the younger generation remembers and honors the feats of war veterans is a good thing and needs to be replicated.
It is known that in Kaluga province, more than 40 schools have participated in the campaign, writing nearly 1,000 letters. These letters will be delivered to veterans, workers in the rear, residents of the blockaded city and those who were arrested in Nazi concentration camps.
Various Victory Day celebrations are being held in all regions of Russia. The Soviet Union's Great Patriotic War lasted from 1939 to 1945 and the Red Army's victory over the Nazi German army in 1945 played a decisive role in defeating fascism and ending World War II (1941-1945). Victory Day on May 9 is the biggest holiday in the former Soviet Union and the Russian Federation today.
