On the evening of April 13, the leader of the People's Committee of Yen Chau district (Son La province) said that in some villages of Phieng Khoai commune, hail had just occurred, causing damage to many local gardeners.

Accordingly, the hailstorm lasted about 30 minutes with strong winds. The hailstorm did not cause any damage to people or houses but destroyed many areas of fruit trees of the people.

In Hang Mon 1, Hang Mon 2, and Bo Rom villages of Phieng Khoai commune, hailstorms caused some plum orchards to fall and break branches that were bearing young fruit. It is estimated that over 80 hectares of plum orchards were affected by hailstorms.

Immediately after the disaster occurred, Yen Chau district authorities and local people reviewed and counted the damage.

Authorities help people overcome initial damage, continue to guide preventive measures, protect crops in unaffected areas, and minimize possible damage.

Meteorological experts say that it is currently the transitional period from winter to summer, so in April, May, and even June, thunderstorms and hail will often occur, not only in the North but also nationwide.
