Storms and hail in the past two days in Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Son La, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, Nghe An, Ha Tinh... have caused more than 2,200 houses to have their roofs blown off and thousands of hectares of crops to be damaged.

According to information from the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, on March 28-29, hail and thunderstorms in the provinces of Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Son La, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, and Thua Thien - Hue caused serious property damage.

Specifically, more than 2,200 houses had their roofs blown off (Ha Giang 1,301, Lao Cai 48, Son La 11, Yen Bai 161, Phu Tho 413, Nghe An 158, Ha Tinh 26, Quang Tri 39, Thua Thien - Hue 9).

In addition, hail and storms also injured 2 people (1 in Phu Tho, 1 in Lao Cai). The power grid in many areas was partially lost due to 46 fallen power poles.

In addition, more than 2,400 hectares of rice, crops and plants were damaged; 253 hectares of forestry trees were fallen or broken; 85 barns were damaged; 0.12 hectares of fish ponds were damaged; 29 cultural houses, factories and schools had their roofs blown off.

The cause of the natural disasters was determined to be the influence of cold air strengthening the low pressure trough, combined with wind convergence at altitudes from 1,500 - 5,000 m.

Immediately after the disaster occurred, local authorities directed inspection, statistics, damage assessment and mobilized local forces to urgently overcome and support people to soon stabilize their lives.

According to forecasts, after this hailstorm, the North will experience increased temperatures from April 1 to 4, with some areas experiencing hot weather, some areas experiencing extremely hot weather. From April 5 to 6, this area is likely to experience scattered showers and thunderstorms.

The South Central and Central Highlands regions still maintain sunny weather during the day, with some places experiencing intense heat; in the evening and at night there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms.
