At the time of developing the Project to propose recognizing Kinh Mon town (Hai Duong) as a type III urban area in early 2024, the town had met the criteria on population size and density.
The total population of Kinh Mon town is 215,637 people, including 141,927 people in the inner city area and 73,710 people in the suburban area. While the requirement of a type III urban area is from 100,000 to 200,000 people.
The urban population density of the town is 1,573 people/km2 (standard of urban type III from 1,400-1,800 people/km2). In which, the population density of the inner city area is 6,285 people/km2, ensuring the regulations of type III urban areas from 6,000-8,000 people/km2.
Population size and density are important criteria in evaluating and classifying urban areas. This criterion is the basis for reflecting the quality of life and the level of socio-economic development. The population growth rate in Kinh Mon town is quite high, demonstrating great urban attraction. In 2023, the town's population growth rate reached 1.27%, and is expected to continue to maintain the growth rate of 1.2-1.3% in 2024.
