By creating fake Facebook accounts and using a scenario to liquidate cheap electronic goods, the subject has scammed money from many social network users.
The Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department (Bac Kan Provincial Police) has just successfully handled a special case against a subject using Facebook to commit fraud and appropriate property of many people.
Accordingly, this unit coordinated with the Criminal Police Department (Bac Kan Provincial Police) and Hoang Dieu Ward Police (Thai Binh City, Thai Binh Province) to arrest Le Thanh Tuan (born in 1989), permanent residence in Song Phuong Commune, Hoai Duc District, Hanoi City but currently living in Group 3, Hoang Dieu Ward, Thai Binh City. Tuan was arrested for creating a fake account to defraud and appropriate property.
Specifically, after purchasing genuine bank accounts online, Le Thanh Tuan created fake Facebook accounts with similar names.
These accounts were used by Tuan to post articles about liquidating household appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, seafood cabinets, etc. in social network groups.
Accordingly, Tuan often introduced himself as a person from Cho Moi district (Bac Kan), currently working in seafood trading, needing to liquidate the furniture in the store to change the business purpose.
To attract buyers, this subject advertised electronic goods for sale at prices much lower than the market price. Using this trick, many people trusted and bought the goods, and transferred deposits in advance to the bank account provided by Tuan. After receiving the money, Tuan immediately blocked interaction with the victim.
To avoid detection, this subject constantly changed the names and avatars of fake Facebook accounts, even changing the contact phone number. Tuan also only went online when posting fraudulent content to attract victims.
The Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department said that with the above scenario, there were a total of 6 victims of Le Thanh Tuan. Of these, 5 were in Bac Kan and 1 was from another province. After being arrested, Le Thanh Tuan has been transferred to Bac Kan Provincial Police to assist in the investigation.
