Weightlifter Tran Dinh Thang won 3 gold medals and broke 3 national records. The events in which this 1999-born athlete brought gold medals to Hai Duong included: snatch 160 kg, previous record 152 kg; clean and jerk 196 kg, previous record 195 kg; total lift 356 kg, previous record 347 kg. Before the congress, Tran Dinh Thang was considered the "gold mine" of Hai Duong weightlifting. At the previous congress, this athlete also won 1 gold medal.
On the first day of competition, weightlifter Dinh Pham Thi Hong Nhung brought home the first gold medal for Hai Duong in the women's 59 kg category. This female weightlifter also won 1 silver medal (HCB) and 1 bronze medal (HCĐ).
With this achievement, Hai Duong weightlifting has exceeded the medal target and can win more gold medals when there are still some events to compete. Before the congress, the weightlifting team was assigned a target of 3 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 3 bronze medals.
Also on the competition day of December 19, canoeing won another gold medal in the men's 200m K1 category, won by rower Son Van Cuong. Currently, canoeing has a total of 4 gold medals.
With 4 gold medals won on December 19, the Hai Duong high-performance sports delegation has a total of 21 gold medals, almost reaching the target of 22-24 gold medals and there are still some sports that have not been competed. At the end of the competition day on December 19, the Hai Duong delegation ranked 9th among the leading provinces, cities and sectors.
On the medal tally on December 19, Hai Duong ranked 12th out of 65 provinces, cities and sectors.
Leading the rankings is still Hanoi with 139 gold medals, 120 silver medals and 139 bronze medals.
