In the last three games involving Tottenham, fans have seen 5, 7 and 9 goals, as Ange Postecoglou's side continue to play with ease. The difference is that this time they have not won against the league leaders Liverpool.

Mohamed Salah continued to be the star of the show with two goals and two assists. He became the first player in Premier League history to reach double figures for both goals and assists before Christmas. He also leads the race for the Golden Boot and Best Passer awards, with 15 goals and 11 assists.

But not Salah, the first credit for Liverpool's opening goal belonged to defender Trent Alexander-Arnold with a cross that Luis Diaz headed into the near corner. In the 36th minute, Alexis Mac Allister increased the score to 2-0 for the away team, also with a header.

Tottenham pulled one back in the 41st minute through James Maddison, but Liverpool restored their two-goal lead five minutes later, when Salah set up Dominik Szoboszlai for a goal. In the second half, the Hungarian midfielder returned the favour with a cross for Salah to tap into the net from close range. By then the visitors were leading 5-1 and the match was all but over.

Tottenham rekindled hope when they scored twice in a row through Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke. But just two minutes later, Salah assisted Diaz to seal a 6-3 victory for Arne Slot's army.

The big win puts Liverpool four points clear of second-placed Chelsea, with a game in hand. After the Christmas break, Slot's men will return to Anfield to host Leicester City, while Tottenham travel to high-flying Nottingham Forest.
