The 2008 Road Traffic Law stipulates that motorcyclists must comply with the following:

1. Motorbike and motorbike drivers are only allowed to carry one person, except in the following cases, when they are allowed to carry a maximum of two people: Transporting a sick person to the emergency room; Escorting a person who has violated the law; Children under 14 years old.

2. Drivers and passengers of two-wheeled motorbikes, three-wheeled motorbikes, and mopeds must wear properly fastened helmets.

3. Drivers of two-wheeled motorbikes, three-wheeled motorbikes, and mopeds are not allowed to perform the following acts:

a) Ride in a row.

b) Drive on the road reserved for pedestrians and other vehicles.

c) Use of umbrellas, mobile phones, audio devices, except hearing aids.

d) Using a vehicle to pull, push other vehicles, other objects, carry, lift and transport bulky objects.

d) Let go of both hands or ride on one wheel for two-wheeled vehicles, on two wheels for three-wheeled vehicles.

e) Other acts that disrupt traffic order and safety.

4. People sitting on two-wheeled motorbikes, three-wheeled motorbikes, and motorbikes when participating in traffic are not allowed to perform the following acts:

a) Carrying bulky objects.

b) Use the cell.

c) Clinging to, pulling or pushing other vehicles.

d) Standing on the saddle, on the luggage rack or sitting on the handlebars.

d) Other acts that disrupt traffic order and safety.

The law does not regulate the act of driving a motorbike with one hand. Similarly, Decree 46/2016/ND-CP guiding the handling of violations in the field of road and railway traffic also lists the penalties for violations in driving a motorbike but does not mention the act of driving a motorbike with one hand.

The Decree only stipulates a fine of VND100,000 to VND200,000 for drivers using umbrellas, mobile phones, audio devices, except hearing aids; a fine of VND5,000,000 to VND7,000,000 for drivers letting go of both hands, using their feet to control the vehicle, sitting on one side to control the vehicle; lying on the saddle to control the vehicle; changing drivers while driving; turning around to drive the vehicle or driving blindfolded.

From the above regulations, it can be seen that if you drive a motorbike with one hand, you will not be punished because there are no regulations. However, driving with one hand is really dangerous. It will be very difficult for the driver to control the vehicle and handle unexpected situations in time. Therefore, to ensure the safety of yourself and those around you, you should drive with both hands and comply with traffic safety regulations.
