Bach Dang River - where the sacred souls of mountains and rivers converge

The land of Trang Kenh - Bach Dang (Thuy Nguyen district) is famous for 3 naval battles against invaders in our country's history. Those battles are associated with the names of heroes: King Le Dai Hanh, National Duke and Commander-in-Chief Hung Dao Vuong Tran Quoc Tuan and King Ngo Quyen.

To commemorate the national heroes who established resounding victories on the historic river, people built the Bach Dang Giang relic site - a large-scale, spacious architectural complex on the prime land of the Trang Kenh mountain range.

More than 20 km north of the city center, the Bach Dang Giang relic site lies at the foot of the majestic Trang Kenh mountain, captivating visitors with its charming landscape, with mountains on one side, a river on the other, and a cool green space.

Pho Chieu Pagoda with the tallest tower in Hai Phong

Pho Chieu Pagoda is located in Mieu 2 Quarter, Du Hang Kenh Ward, Le Chan District. The pagoda was built in 1953 by monk Ngo Chan Tu, from Cao Mai Village (Kien Xuong District, Thai Binh), with the name Tam Giao Duong because it worships the Three Religions of the same origin: Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism.

According to historical records at Pho Chieu Pagoda in Hai Phong, in 1954, after a year of construction, the pagoda invited Venerable Thich Thanh Quang from Nam Dinh to preside over the pagoda. Since then, the pagoda has been renovated, repaired and only worships Buddha, and was later renamed Pho Chieu Pagoda.

The front hall of Pho Chieu Pagoda was elaborately and meticulously built with a huge wine jar as the highlight on the roof. The two gables are built with square pillars, above which are five small wine jars, representing the harmony of the three religions: Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism.

The tower garden in the temple grounds is located to the right of the main hall, each tower is placed inside a relic of the abbot and deceased monks of the temple.

The highlight of the pagoda is the 9-storey lotus tower, 53 m high. This is the tallest tower in Hai Phong to date. On top of the tower is a wine gourd symbolizing the Cam Lo water gourd of Bodhisattva Quan Am placed on a 9-storey lotus platform.

Another highlight of the pagoda is the small pagoda in the middle of the lake in front of the main hall, modeled after the One Pillar Pagoda in Hanoi. The four corners of the lotus pond are embossed with the image of four dragons winding up from the water surface, making the scenery around the One Pillar Pagoda both modern and uniquely interwoven with traditional features.

Nghe Temple still preserves many valuable stone sculptures such as the large stone stele recording the biography of female general Le Chan, carved during the Nguyen Dynasty.

At the worshiping hall, there is a stone bell with soft reliefs of dragon and cloud dance. At the incense burner, there is a stone bed with elaborate reliefs of birds, animals, flowers and leaves from a single block of stone.
