The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rains in many parts of the state over the next four days and has advised people to take shelter in safe places during thunderstorms.
On September 3, the government of Odisha state, eastern India, said at least 10 people were killed and 3 others seriously injured by lightning strikes during heavy rain.
Four people were killed in Khurda district, two in Bolangir and one each in Angul, Boudh, Jagatsinghpur and Dhenkanal districts. Three people were injured in Khurda.
Coastal areas of Odisha, including the cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, also received heavy rain on September 2.
