This is the first time that Tu Ky district (Hai Duong) has organized the largest-ever English Skills Competition for students with the theme of "Global Citizen - Hai Duong Identity".
On March 9, the Department of Education and Training of Tu Ky district organized the speaking round of the English Skills Competition with the theme "Global Citizen - Hai Duong Identity".
24 contestants, including 12 primary school students and 12 secondary school students, participated in the English speaking contest. Contestants randomly chose a topic and prepared for 5 minutes. Students presented their speeches for a maximum of 5 minutes, not including the time to answer questions from the judges. The presentation content included: a brief introduction about themselves; speaking on a topic chosen by lot; answering questions from the judges. The topics chosen by lot were mainly about family, school, hometown, scenic spots, and relics in Tu Ky and Hai Duong districts. The welcoming performance was exciting with songs performed by students in English.
The Organizing Committee awarded 3 first prizes, 4 second prizes, and 17 third prizes to students in the speech contest; and 32 consolation prizes to students with excellent writing performances. In addition to receiving certificates and prizes from the Organizing Committee, the winning students also received prizes from Hope Foreign Language Center and Happy Life International English Center.
Previously, 152 students from grades 3 to 8 took the written test. The test lasted 60 minutes for primary school students and 90 minutes for secondary school students. The test content tested knowledge of grammar, vocabulary, listening - reading - writing skills, and how to use language functions. The organizing committee selected 12 primary school students and 12 secondary school students with the highest rankings to participate in the speaking test.
The contest aims to promote and improve the quality of English teaching and learning, increase presentation skills, eloquence, and expression ability; help students be active and confident in communicating in English; create opportunities for schools to exchange and share experiences in teaching and learning English...
