With the tradition of 'When drinking water, remember its source', in recent years, Thanh Mien district (Hai Duong) has had many good ways to help students turn to their national roots.
"A tree has roots, a river has a source"
Thanh Mien district has more than 40 historical and cultural relics ranked by the State, including 6 relics worshiping figures from the Hung Kings period. On the occasion of the annual Hung Kings' death anniversary, many schools in the district organize practical activities to help students return to their national roots.
This year, Tu Cuong Primary School organized a "return to the source" activity for students. The location chosen by the school for the visit and experience was An Khoi communal house - a rare place in the province to worship Hung King.
Under the shade of an ancient banyan tree, teacher Vu Thi Hoa, Tu Cuong Primary School and students learned about the history and culture of An Khoi communal house and the great contributions of the Hung Kings in the cause of building and defending the country. According to Ms. Hoa, this relic dates back to the early 20th century and was built in the shape of the letter Dinh, including 5 main worship rooms and 3 rear palace rooms. In addition to worshiping the Hung Kings, An Khoi communal house also worships 3 village tutelary gods: Dao Dai Hung, Vo Cong Truc and Bui Khan, all of whom contributed to the Later Le Dynasty. Currently, the relic still preserves a number of valuable sacrificial objects, typically a 116-year-old gilded wooden scroll. In 2007, An Khoi communal house was ranked as a national historical and cultural relic.
Nguyen Thi Thao My, a 5th grade student at Tu Cuong Primary School, said: "An Khoi Communal House and some historical sites in the commune are always red addresses for us. Every year, the school regularly organizes extracurricular activities at these sites to help students better understand the origins and history of the nation. This is also an opportunity for us to study and improve our knowledge through researching historical sites and revolutionary traditions of our homeland."
As a tour guide, teacher Vu Thi My from Chi Lang Bac Primary School thoroughly researched the Cao Khe communal house. Thanks to that, the extracurricular lesson held at this historical site provided 5th graders with a lot of useful information. Some students were surprised to learn that the communal house worships the 4 village guardian spirits, all descendants of King Lac Long Quan, or the role of the communal house in the uprising of the Trung Sisters against the Eastern Han invaders.
"There are students who live near historical sites but do not know who they worship or what their contributions are. Organizing extracurricular activities is necessary to help students better understand the history of the nation and the locality," said teacher My.

According to Mr. Le Anh Tuan, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Mien district, historical relics have an important meaning in traditional education, showing the deep gratitude of today's generation for the sacrifices of previous generations. Organizing practical lessons associated with local historical relics is an effective form of education to help students raise awareness of preserving the traditional cultural values of their homeland. The activities of "Repaying gratitude", "When drinking water, remember its source" are also good ways to have a positive impact on the formation of personality, cultivating ideals, will and courage for generations of students.
